This spring, Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle brings a new show to the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith and other venues around the United Kingdom.
Despite announcing his retirement from stand-up comedy a few years ago, Boyle has evidently performed an about turn. The Glaswegian shot to fame for his vicious, black humor, which sometimes landed him in hot water.
Boyle became (in)famous after a long stint on the BBC current affairs comedy show Mock the Week before later quitting. A firm believer in freedom of speech, Boyle seems to revel in the polarizing effect he has on audiences and critics. Among his most controversial moments were barbs aimed at disabled people and immigrants, providing ample evidence of Boyle’s taste for jokes which shave very close to the bone in an era where everyone is obsessed with political correctness.
However, it seems Boyle has mellowed ever so slightly as the years advance, and he can now be found directing his ire at political targets in an excellent column in The Guardian. Commentators predict his new show will have a similarly political feel, with his famous dark humor used to deride the state of modern society.
Love him or hate him, the new show definitely won’t be dull. Book your tickets online from Frankie’s official website and follow him on social media for more updates.
