This is also known as a peer-to-peer car share born in San Francisco, around since 2011. The goal of this company is different from other car shares. They actually have a plan to reduce the number of cars on the road. According to their website, there are 1 billion cars on the road and this number is set to double in the next decade.
Getaround wants to reduce the number of cars on the road by promoting car sharing. How does it work? All you have to do is register, either your car or as a driver. There is no membership fee and you can rent a car conveniently in your own neighborhood for as little as $5 an hour. For car owners, the company estimated your car goes unused for as much as 22 hours a day. If car owners take advantage of this service, it is possible to make up to $10,000 a year. Give it a try and save some energy while you are at it!
