It can be hard finding time to hit the slopes during the busy holiday season. If you find spring approaching too quickly, check out one of these late-season destinations.
Whistler Blackcomb, Canada
Whistler sits on a glacier, allowing people to ski into the summer months while the land around the peaks turn green. If you’re not into skiing or snowboarding, the resort has plenty of après ski for everyone.
Åre, Sweden
More than 100 pistes are illuminated for night skiing, as well as husky rides, snow mobiling and cross-country. Åre is also home to Sweden’s largest downhill slope.
Gassan, Japan
Located on Honshu, Gassan is so engulfed by snow it’s inaccessible during the wintertime. The resort opens up in April, where you can enjoy up to 1,000 meters of vertical adrenaline.
Mammoth Mountain, Calif.
This is the best place to go for both snow and sun. Just six hours from Los Angeles, Mammoth Mountain gets 300 days of sunshine every year, with a ski season that extends into June, sometimes July.
Portillo, Chile
If you’re looking for a summer escape, head to South America for skiing that rivals Europe’s most famous pistes. Portillo is the continent’s oldest ski resort, with the season opening in mid-June and lasting until October.
Chamonix, France
Chamonix is often regarded as the best place for late-season snow, especially for those who like to go off-piste. For budget-minded travelers, there are plenty of resorts on the lower end of the price range.
