Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

The Nobel Prize-winning writer Ernest Hemingway spent around 20 years in Cuba despite living a largely nomadic life. Many of his favorite haunts still stand today and you can visit them on a Hemingway in Cuba itinerary.

The first spot is old Havana, an easy one to reach. Here you will find the Hotel Ambos Mundos, where Hemingway stayed when he first arrived on the island. You can still see old photos and artifacts from the time, and his old room can be visited if you book in advance.

Elsewhere in old Havana are El Floridita and La Bodeguita, two bars where Hemingway would drink regularly. His benders were famous in town and he would entertain U.S. celebrities on their visits to Cuba.

Outside Havana lies the fishing village of Cojímar, where Hemingway kept his boat. It’s a nice daytrip and there are some lovely restaurants by the water.

Another daytrip is Finca Vigía, the farm that became Hemingway’s home. Today, it is a museum filled with his belongings, and it’s a must see for fans of the writer.

Further afield lies Cayo Coco, a beautiful stretch of sandy beach off which Hemingway would fish. Make like him on a day boat trip from your hotel.

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
