While being a guest at a brand-new luxury hotel is a one-of-a-kind experience, there’s something to be said about staying at a property with historical significance. If you want a little history with your stay, consider checking in to one of these properties.

Beekman Arms & Delamater Inn
The Beekman Arms opened in 1766 and saw the addition of the Delamater Inn in 1844. The property in Rhinebeck, N.Y., has hosted numerous presidents including George Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Bill Clinton.

The Hay-Adams
One of Washington, D.C.’s, most iconic hotels, The Hay-Adams sits on the site of the former homes of John Hay (personal secretary to President Abraham Lincoln) and Henry Adams (historian and descendent of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams).

Hotel Monteleone
Located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, the property has been family-owned since Antonio Monteleone opened it in 1886. The hotel is said to be haunted, with guests reporting unusual occurrences including the restaurant door opening despite being locked and ghostly images of children playing.

The Palmer House Hilton
The property had a rough start. It was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, only 13 days after its grand opening. Owner Potter Palmer was determined to rebuild and the hotel reopened in 1873. Since then, the property hosted many famous figures from Oscar Wilde to Judy Garland.

The Raleigh
Opened in 1940, The Raleigh is known for its Art Deco architecture, which forever changed the landscape of Miami Beach. The property’s stunning pool is a big draw for guests and was frequented by aquatic actress Esther Williams.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
