Atlanta is home to a thriving LGBT community. The city boasts many LGBT businesses, special events and annual festivals. The Advocate named Atlanta America’s “gayest city” in 2010.
The city’s midtown neighborhood is affectionately known as the gayborhood. Many LGBT-friendly bars and restaurants are located in this section of the city. Blake’s on the Park and Bulldogs are two popular nightlife spots in the gayborhood. Project Q Atlanta offers a blog and comprehensive listing of local nightlife.
In addition to the local cultural centers, Atlanta is home to several LGBT community organizations to better the lives of LGBT residents. The City of Atlanta government provides support and services to the LGBT community, all detailed on their website. The Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce also strives to improve and display the value of the city’s LGBT community. The diverse network of students, business owners, professionals and corporate partners host events and provide resources to the community. Based in Atlanta, Georgia Equality works to advance fairness, safety and opportunities to Georgia’s LGBT community.
