Portland has long been a meeting ground for the slightly offbeat and, when it comes to the LGBT community, there’s no exception. It’s a haven for gay and lesbian men and women and hosts numerous events for the community throughout the year.

The city is home to the Red Dress Party charity in May, which attracts large crowds dressing up in gowns to raise funds for LGBT organizations, as well as the colorful Homo’s Got Talent dance-off.

In June, the Portland Pride festival comes to town along with Peacock in the Park and BearTown, both of which help raise funds for the community. You can also witness multiple queer-themed music and film festivals in the city all year long.

For nightlife, Embers and CC Slaughters are two of the most popular joints, but you’ll also find a good time at Hobo’s and Crush. If you’re in the mood for an epic drag performance, be sure to stop by Darcelle VX Showcase, one of the longest running shows in the country and home to the oldest drag queen around.

Overall, the city of Portland is incredibly welcoming to members of the LGBT community and there’s no shortage of gay-friendly places to see and explore.
