Portland, Ore., has a strong history and relevance to those in the LGBT community. The city’s LGBT history goes back to the first settlers in the area, with reports of indigenous people celebrating gay culture. The Q Center is a local non-profit community center, providing a safe space to celebrate and support the LGBT community. Basic Rights Oregon advocates for public policy needs of the LGBT community. Equity Foundation is a grant writing organization with the purpose of funding groups and programs advancing the LGBT community. Cascade AIDS Project is a community-based provider of HIV services, education and advocacy.
