Bogota once had something of a seedy reputation, but, over the last decade, has proven itself to be a remarkable city with a rich culture, friendly people and numerous historic sights to see. It also happens to have one of the largest LGBTQ populations in South America, making it the perfect destination for the community.
There’s much to see and do in Bogota, beginning with a cable car right up to the top of Monserrate Mountain. Atop the peak rests a 17th-century church at an elevation of 10,407 feet, providing excellent views of the city below. There’s also the Museo de Oro, a gold museum with the largest collection in the world. Also check out the Salt Cathedral if you have the time.
When it comes to nightlife there’s nothing quite like the epicenter, known as Theatron. This massive, 13-room club is the largest in South America and possibly the world. On Saturday nights it hosts roughly 8,000 people. It’s the go-to place to mingle and dance and throw inhibitions to the wind. For something a little more laidback, head over to El Recreo de Adan or Estacion.
While Bogota still has some areas you might not want to venture, regardless of whether you’re LGBTQ or not, much of the city is incredibly warm and welcoming to every tourist. It’s a great vacation destination with tons of things to keep you busy.
