Trends / LGBTQIA+

Norway is a welcoming and liberal country that celebrates the LGBTQ community with parties, events, parades and more. The country has elected gay officials and popular entertainers that are LGBTQ, making it a fantastic place to spend a holiday. The capital city of Oslo offers the most bang for the community, thanks to a wide range of shopping, nightlife, restaurants and culture.

Oslo doesn’t possess a “gay” neighborhood, per se, as much of the community is able to openly mingle wherever they please. Norway’s culture is less segregated than our own, so it’s not unusual to see gay couples alongside straight at the clubs. The city does, however, have a few gay clubs to choose from, including London and Elsker.

When it comes to dining, there are wonderful restaurants all throughout the city, with Bob’s Pub a highlight among the LGBTQ community. Kolonihagen and Maaemo are also popular choices if you’re looking for a great meal.

Oslo’s Pride is the largest gay event of the year with more than 150 happenings taking place over the course of 10 days. It typically occurs during the last week of June into July and showcases art exhibits, film screenings, parties and even a few political debates. The festivities take place in the city center, turned into Pride Park.

Norway is certainly one of the most welcoming countries in the world when it comes to the LGBTQ community and is a superb place to spend a week or two on vacation.
