Trends / Adventure

Looking for a gorgeous rainforest home to hundreds of species, beaches and seclusion? You will find just the place in northeast Madagascar in Masoala National Park. Madagascar was isolated for almost 70 million years and, while some areas are now well populated, Masoala is still a relatively untouched location.

The park is the largest remaining area of protected rainforest in Madagascar.  As such, it is home to numerous animals and fauna. Some of the most popular animals to see are the Serpent Eagle, Helmet Vanga, Madagascar Red Owl, Lemurs, Geckos, Chameleons, Humpback whales, Bottlenose dolphins and many more. The most popular activity is taking guided walks through the rainforest and observing the different animals in their habitats. It is essential to hire a guide because there are also animals to watch out for, such as crocodiles. In addition, the forest is massive — a guide will be able to show the correct paths and lead you in the right direction.

The Masoala Forest Lodge is a wonderful place to stay while visiting the park. For those worried about sustainable travel, the lodge is eco-friendly and designed to have a low impact on the ecosystems around it. The lodge has a maximum capacity of 14 guests, so make sure to book your stay early. The lodge has its own private reserve for night walks and guided walks through the surrounding forest and is located on a beach.

There are also villages spread out in the park that showcase life for Madagascar citizens, giving travelers insight to the culture. Masoala National Park has everything a traveler looks for in an adventure.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
