With more flights becoming available to Cuba, American travelers are looking for chances to visit the new destination. Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the first hotel group to jump to the opportunity, opening Four Points Havana in June.
The Four Points Havana offers 186 guestrooms, dining options at Don Quixote and El Olivo, a full spa and 24-hour fitness center. Approximately 1,000 square feet of meeting space serves the hotel’s location in the city’s business and finance district near many international embassies, alongside ample business facilities and complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel.
Rumors point to Marriott possibly following suit with another property later in the year, but hotel groups are quickly discovering an unexpected, already prevalent accommodation option for travelers to Havana — Airbnb. While Starwood is definitely making history by being the first American hospitality brand to set foot on the island in decades, Airbnb offers something undeniable. The brand caters to American travelers with all the benefits its users have come to expect. From $10 shared bedrooms to penthouses and mega yacht accommodations ranging up to $3,000 per night, any traveler with any taste or budget can find a tempting choice. Unlike the few hotels rushing to build or refurbish, Airbnb is already present, ready and waiting to take travelers’ money.
