The night sky holds a lot of allure for most of us. Unfortunately, if you live in a city, seeing the night sky in all of its glory is not a common experience. Even if you get the chance to observe the night sky in a moment of shear bliss you might still be at a loss for what you’re looking at. Certain constellations are all too familiar, like Orion or the Big Dipper, but what about all the others? How can a novice astronomer come to terms with the language of the sky?
This is where the Night Sky App comes in to help. Invented by Andy Weekes, a teacher by day and app inventor by night, this tool gives you the ability to view constellations with your phone. This is a stargazing application and provides you with a healthy dose of augmented reality via your phone. Instead of attempting to understand the sky based on your memory of grade school science classes, the Night Sky App will show you the constellations that surround you. The app can also create the night sky for you and give you audiovisual tours of the galaxy.
