That longtime dream of visiting the Andes Mountains can now include a touch of luxury while traversing the Peruvian countryside. The Belmond Andean Explorer is a new, high-end sleeper train, South America’s first, and travels across the Andean landscape with stops in Cusco, Puno and Arequipa.

On board the 48-passenger train, guests will find various cars with different purposes: an observation lounge to soak in the views and surroundings; a spa car where guests can relax amid the placid views; and lounge and dining cars where bartenders serve cocktails and a grand piano fills the air with calming music. Private guest cabins feature one double bed, two twin beds or a set of bunk beds, each of which has its own private bathroom.

Passengers can choose from one-night or two-night itineraries. The one-night options travel between Puno and Cusco, while the two-night journeys travel between UNESCO World Heritage site Arequipa and the ancient Incan capital city of Cusco, with a stop at Lake Titicaca. Other sights along the way include the depths of Colca Canyon, sunsets over the La Raya mountains and the painted caves of Sumbay, north of Arequipa.

Prices to travel via the Belmond Andean Explorer are not cheap, so start saving for your Incan adventure as soon as possible. Rates are also available for group tours or special events.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?
