Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

During the long, dark, cold days of winter, a little respite goes a long way. These unique winter festivals bring a little light and fun to the season.

Held in early- to mid-February in Hanover, N.H., the Dartmouth Winter Carnival is commonly referred to as a 30-ring circus. It’s one of the most popular in New England, organized by and for the students of Dartmouth College. The 10-day festival features ski races, sleigh rides, music and plenty of libations.

In 1914, residents gathered in Steamboat Springs, Colo., to alleviate cabin fever, and the tradition still takes place today. The Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is the second week of February, located in the city’s downtown area, featuring a parade, skiing and snowboarding events, food, crafts and more.

The Newport Winter Festival, in mid-February in Newport, R.I., has been held every year since the late 1980s. Guests enjoy 10 days filled with more than 150 events including a chili cook off, Beatlemania concert, ice sculpting, sand castle competitions, food and warm beverages.
Those willing to brace the cold can head to Anchorage, Alaska, for the Fur Rendezvous, or Fur Rondy, held late February to early March. A tradition since 1935, the festival originally focused on the fur trade, but today focuses on blanket tosses, an outdoor hockey tournament, outhouse races and the 975-mile World Champion Sled Dog Race.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?

You’re in between flights and ready to find a coffee and your next gate and settle in. But then you find the signs to your gate and look down the impossibly long corridor and wonder how you managed to have the gate at the opposite end of the airport.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
