South Australian Adventure Bay Charters created a new Aqua Sub to allow travelers to stay dry and still get up close and personal with great white sharks. The Shark Warrior is a charter boat with a six-seat, glass pod at the rear of the vessel. The boat operates from Australia’s Port Lincoln and travels to the waters of the Neptune Islands, a 2.5-hour journey.

Once the boat enters the shark-infested waters, the pod is lowered into the ocean, offering passengers 360-degree underwater views, eliminating the need for wetsuits and oxygen equipment. The Aqua Sub is a world first for shark tourism.

“We saw the need to develop an opportunity for people who are curious about seeing great white sharks but wouldn’t or cannot scuba dive,” said Matt Waller, Adventure Bay Charters. “ We have created an atmosphere for people to stay in their comfort zone while getting the chance to get underwater and see the sharks in their natural habitat.”

Adventure Bay Charters has operated shark cage diving tours in South Australia since 2011 and is the only in the world offering the innovative Aqua Sub. Excursions also cater to traditional shark cage divers; both the pod and the shark cage are submerged simultaneously.

Rates begin at $406 for adults and $316 for kids.
