Spring Break Ski Trips

Trends / Spring Break

While most college kids head to the beach during spring break to soak up the sun, we think more of you should be hitting the slopes. Spring break is the perfect time of year to ski because the crowds are small and so are the prices … at least compared to winter.

Alta, Utah

Alta has the honor of getting higher quantities of snow than any other place in the Rockies thanks to its north-facing terrain. Even during March you can still expect the slopes to be covered in powder and, since it’s approaching the end of ski season, the prices tend to drop too.

Wolf Creek, Colo.

Wolf Creek is one of the best ski resorts in Colorado; roughly 65 percent of its slopes are facing north so the snow doesn’t dissipate until the end of the season. It’s also not as popular as most other resorts in the area, so you should be able to snag a bargain.

Grand Targhee, Wyo.

Grand Targhee is nestled in the Teton Range far to the north, meaning the temperatures stay steadily cool well into spring. It’s also made up of predominately western-facing slopes so the snow stays on weeks after it’s already melted at most other resorts. It’s not the biggest mountain, at only 10,000 feet, but it’s great for college students looking to cut loose.

Kirkwood, Calif.

While the Sierra Nevada Mountains might not see the most snow this time of year, the area around Lake Tahoe is reliably white long enough to bring in busloads of students during spring break. Kirkwood claims the most snow in the region during March, so make sure you plan your trip there.
