One of the trickiest parts of studying abroad is finding a routine that can balance your newfound love of fish and chips or pain au chocolat.
Unfortunately, your university may have additional fees for joining the campus gym and you don’t want to commit to joining a team sport. So, here are a few exercises you can do in your bedroom or apartment to help keep you from gaining those pesky pounds.
Use your desk or kitchen chair to do any of these simple exercises. Since this workout is possible from the comfort of your home, turn on a movie or catch up on your favorite shows on Netflix to help pass the time.
If you plan ahead, you can pack a few resistance bands. These are basically flat, so they will not take up much space in your suitcase, and can be used for a variety of different exercises. Lay on your side, with a resistance band wrapped around your knees and push your bottom knee downward, while lifting the top against the band to work out your thighs. You can turn around and continue on your other side as well.
The next exercise using these bands may look a little silly, but after a few minutes you’ll be feeling the burn. Move the bands three or four inches above your knees, and squat slightly by bending your hips and knees (while keeping your back straight) and continue to walk sideways, bringing one foot to the other.
If you’re already spending too much time indoors, go for a walk! Going for a long walk or a jog for at least 30 minutes every day is a great way to explore your new surroundings and get to know your neighborhood.
