The ship carrying gluttonous all-you-can-eat buffets and late-night dance clubs has sailed, making way for a new trend in the cruising industry that focuses more on moderation, health and wellness.
One example of this new cruising experience comes from Lindblad Expeditions, a company that specializes in adventure cruises in conjunction with National Geographic. As part of their itineraries, the company combines its sense of adventure and off-boat excursions with myriad opportunities to keep active both on and off the boat. The agendas include voyages to remote islands where passengers can disembark and take part in group hikes, snorkeling and paddle boarding, and then return to the boat for yoga classes, barre sessions and one-on-one consultations with personal trainers.
Another such cruise line is Seabourn, which offers its passengers access to mindful and holistic activities on board. Guests can take advantage of complimentary yoga classes, meditation sessions and consultations with certified experts in integrative medicine. Seabourn’s upcoming October excursion will travel around Greece, Italy and Malta.
Regent Seven Seas has offered such cruises for about a year and incorporates wellness into some of its off-boat activities, such as tai chi in palace gardens in Provence and yoga near Italy’s Mount Etna.
