The Andes are one of the most famous mountain ranges in the world thanks to its breathtaking beauty and wealth of wildlife that can be found nowhere else on Earth. This stunning region is typically explored on foot, but it shouldn’t be limited to those who aren’t quite so adventurous. Explora is offering a Travesia to Salta tour that travels through the heart of the Andes by car for an incredible experience.
The tour begins at one of two starting points, in Chile or Argentina, but follows the same route in opposite directions. Guests will traverse the Andes by van and stay in Explora camps along the way during this nine-day, eight-night journey. Highlights of the trip include the famed Atacama Desert, the Calchaquíes Valleys and the historic, colonial town of Cachi. Your group will also discover the Abra del Acay and spend time wandering through the Andes to experience the abundance of unique wildlife therein.
Accommodations during your journey will be pretty unique, with ancient stone cabins and old shipping containers standing in place of traditional hotels and tents. Three nights of your adventure will be spent at San Pedro de Atacama with ample opportunity to survey the surrounding desert, volcanoes, hot springs and geysers around town.
