Check out these upcoming springtime festivals around the United States. Winter will soon be over so book your tickets early.
South by Southwest
Also known as SXSW, this weeklong event essentially takes over Austin, Texas, making it the center of the music world and pop culture for 10 whole days. Artists come from around the world, often getting their big break at the festival.
Coachella
Coachella is a camping festival located in Indio, Calif., born out of the West Coast rave scene and becoming the unofficial kick-off for festival season in America. The event is split into two weekends, plus Stagecoach, a country music version of Coachella that takes place shortly after.
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
The festival takes place over 10 days, but Jazz Fest refers to the variety of shows surrounding the official event. New Orleans has always been a great city for jazz, so dozens of unaffiliated venues are bringing in world-class performers during the festival, making it a great time to visit the city even if you don’t have a ticket.
Beale Street Music Festival
Memphis has everything that makes for a great festival: a historic music scene, excellent regional cuisine (Memphis barbecue), warm weather and beautiful spaces to hold it all. If you’re a fan of American roots music, you can’t go wrong going to Beale Street.
FORM Arcosanti
More than a music festival, FORM takes place in Arcosanti, an experimental town located in the Arizona desert. Paolo Soleri, an architect who wanted to demonstrate the intersection of his field with ecology, designed the town, showing how urban design can promote community interaction while minimizing its impact on the earth.
Moogfest
Durham may not seem like a rave destination, but it is the location of Moog headquarters. Expect a great lineup of experimental electronic artists, but that’s just the half of it. During the day, the festival involves a number of workshops, demonstrations and panels discussing art, music and technology.
