Looking for somewhere spooky to travel this October? Try one of these top destinations for Halloween happenings.
VooDoo Fest
VooDoo Fest in New Orleans, a Halloween weekend music festival featuring headliners like Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, DJ Snake and The Killers, offers so much more than just great music. Mix festival wear with your favorite costume pieces, and join the crowd of partygoers decked out in their whimsical best. Plus, enjoy all the delicious New Orleans food vendors on site, as well as the fun, interactive, large-scale art installations, all with a Halloween vibe.
Anoka Halloween
Ever heard of Anoka, Minn.? This self-proclaimed Halloween Capital of the World started pulling out all the stops for the holiday in the early 1900s, and continues to do so to this day. They host events all through the month of October, but things really ramp up Oct. 28, when you can find a kid-friendly carnival, parade, 5k, haunted houses, parties and more.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze
For an Instagram-worthy experience that routinely sells out every single night, make plans to attend the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, going on Oct. 5-9, and 12-31, plus select dates in November. The New York event features thousands upon thousands of hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns arranged in perfectly artistic designs that will leave you wondering just how they did it. This year’s event promises more pumpkins than ever before.
The Salem Witch Halloween Ball
Where better to get a little witchy than the historic town of Salem? The Salem Witch Halloween Ball attracts hundreds of costumed revelers each year. Meanwhile, real-life witches lead Samhain ceremonies, as bonfires blaze nearby. Plus, there’s great live music, a costume contest and plenty else to keep you entertained.
Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival
A highly underrated event, this carnival takes place in Derry, Ireland, and attracts more than 50,000 partygoers each year. Homemade costumers are a must (so much so you may find you can’t even get a drink at the bar if you’re not dressed up in your finest). Festivities abound in the historic town, and include a parade and fireworks.
