Under $100 / Europe

Arles is a city in France known for its history. This guide will help you spend less than $100.

In the morning, stop by any bakery and grab a fresh baked good for breakfast. Most places shouldn’t cost more than $6–8 dollars, so shop around if a place feels expensive to you.

Next stop would be to go to the Visitor’s Center and grab a Van Gogh Walking Tour Map, free, to take you to different sites in Arles where Van Gogh painted. If you’re hungry, take a seat at La Café La Nuit, included on the walking tour. It’s not too pricey — roasted salmon steak will cost around $22, while a plate of pasta will be no more than $15.

After you take a break from the tour, head to the Amphitheatre. It is a $6 entrance fee and you’re free roam the Roman structure. It is a two-tiered amphitheater that dates to the first century BC. It provided the stereotypical entertainment at the time, including chariot races and combat battles.

The Baths of Constantine is also a good place to visit. Although, you can’t bathe in them, it is still worth seeing. They were built in the fourth century and were once a part of the palace.

If you are not too tired, the last suggestion would be to visit the Musée de l’Arles antique, $9 to get in. This houses the oldest known bust of Caesar, found recently in 2008.

For dinner, check out Le Galoubet, a favorite restaurant in Arles. There’s a daily deal with the “entrée du jour” and the “plat du jour,” where you get both an entrée and main course for less than $25.
