The seaside resort of Blackpool offers a taste of traditional British holidays, with its fairground rides and fish-and-chip shops.
Start your day at Munchy’s for an English breakfast. If you’re feeling extra hungry, opt for the mega fry up ($7.50) with a pot of tea. From here, take a bracing walk along the promenade to the Pleasure Beach, home to a multitude of rides and other attractions. A go on the iconic Revolution rollercoaster is well worth the $12 fee.
Take the time to visit the arcades and play games before getting on a tram down to the center of town. Have lunch at Harry Ramsden’s fish-and-chip shop for a taste of another classic British dish ($13), served by one of the most famous chip shops in the country.
After lunch, take the elevator to the top of the nearby Blackpool Tower. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower, this 158-meter attraction offers great views down the coast and over the town ($12). Take a walk around town before a pint in one of the numerous pubs, thanks to which Blackpool has become a top party destination. Ma Kelly’s is a great Irish spot with a lot of character and regular performances. Pints are $4 each.
If you are feeling a little peckish after a few drinks, go for dinner at Mamma’s Italian restaurant ($15 with wine). The food is hearty and will set you up for a few more drinks at The Beach House or Flamingo’s, the latter of which stays open until 5 a.m.
