Florida’s Space Coast is easily accessible from Orlando, whether taking a trip out to the beach as an interlude while at Disney World or looking to tap into your inner astronaut with a stay at Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach. If you can time your visit with a rocket launch, you’ll get a free showing of one of the country’s greatest achievements.
Start with breakfast and Cuban coffee at Vargas Café, where you’ll spend around $10. If beaches are your thing, head to Cherie Down Park, one of the few places beach parking is free. Get there early, though; the lot tends to fill up.
Spend time walking the beach, body surfing or boogie boarding and loop in a trip to Jetty Park, where you can spot sea turtles, dolphins and more from the pier. You may even see a cruise ship leaving the port.
Once an astronaut hangout, La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant has a great array of filling options for around $10.
Spend the evening at the Cocoa Beach Pier, where you might catch live music and find souvenirs. There are several restaurants at the pier, great at sunset.
