Charming, small town and tropical, Sarasota, Fla., makes for a great quick, relaxing beach vacation. Sitting just south of Tampa, Sarasota is accessible and low-key.
For breakfast, hit a local favorite in Rosemary Café, with classic American fare and a lovely patio. Budget around $15.
Spend part of your day exploring the beaches, including Lido Beach and Siesta Beach, each fronting the Atlantic Ocean and offering pristine sugar sand, lovely warm water and walking and lounging opportunities. Or consider renting a stand-up paddleboard or kayak and take to the water. These rentals will cost $40–50.
Other activities can include visits to Mote Marine Laboratory, where you can learn about local marine wildlife, including the adorable and beloved manatees, and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, a lush jungle worth a stroll. Entry is $20.
Sprinkle in lunch and dinner between these activities. Try counter-service Italian sandwiches at Mozzarella Fella; Duvall’s for fresh, local seafood; and Crab & Fin for upscale outdoor dining. Your remaining budget will work well at any of these locations.
