The city of Tangier is located in the northern tip of Morocco where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. It boasts an air of exotic mystery, history, unspoiled beaches and more. Some of the best things to explore in the city are either free or of little cost. We’ve compiled a list of sights, activities and more for you to check out while you’re traveling through Tangier on a budget.
Stroll Through the Medina
The Medina, or Old City, is the perfect place to get lost. Roam the streets and take in the architecture and culture of the beautiful destination. Stroll through the markets for some cheap treasures, like spices, meat, rugs and silks.
The Kasbah Museum is the former sultan’s palace of Dar el-Makhzen, located outside the Medina. Explore Moroccan art, mosaic floors, carpets, ceramics, jewelry and more. The museum is only €1 or so to enter.
Explore Ville Nouvelle, or “new town,” the commercial center of Tangier. Check out the Majorelle Garden, one of the most visited sites in Morocco. Roam through exotic plants and trees, lush streams and pools and enjoy the intense beautiful blue used on many of the structures. The garden is around $10 to enter, and the museum only around $3.
Go to the Beach
Head down to the beach for some fun in the sun, fresh seafood, cafes, bars and more.
