Amsterdam is a city you can find yourself roaming lost in for hours and find plenty to do, but it’s always good to have a game plan. Here are some of the best places you can check out in Amsterdam without breaking the bank.
For breakfast in the morning be sure to hit up The Carousel. Built on an old-fashioned carousel, the restaurant is true to its name. Its fun environment is second only to its amazing sweet and savory pancake menu. The restaurant recommends its famous poffertjes, or mini pancakes. They menu is reasonably priced with a large portion of pancakes for around $6–10.
The Van Gogh Museum is one of Amsterdam’s must-see attractions, with a city so rich in history it is hard to pick just one. Admission is around $18 for an adult ticket, and well worth it to gaze on the timeless original collection of Van Gogh.
If you’re looking for something more beer-centric, check out the Heineken Museum next. The famous Heineken factory is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Admission for a tour and beer tasting is only $20.
After all that art and beer, you’re sure to be starved. Kapitein Zeppos is an eclectic restaurant with a great menu. Try a croque madam, or a grilled cheese with a fried egg on top, for $8.
The best way to see this city is on a cruise through its famous canals. Finish your day with a canal ($17 and up) cruise and you won’t regret it.
End your long day with a treat at one of Amsterdam’s famous “coffeeshops,” which can be found wherever you roam marked by a green and white flag symbol. You must be 18 to enter.
