If in Bogotá, you can fill your day with attractions easily walked to and close to equally fantastic restaurants.
Breakfast is the logical starting point and we are certain you’re well aware of the quality of Columbian coffee, so let’s get both. You’ll need food/fuel to get through the day but not necessarily want to waste too much time. La Ventana in the Hilton is the answer with brilliant coffee and a well executed breakfast buffet.
After you’ve finished your breakfast, stroll to your first of two museum destinations. Not but 15 minutes of walking from the hotel is the Gold Museum, which hosts more than 500,000 tourists each year. Not only do the permanent exhibits feature incredible pre-Hispanic gold work, but the importance of other metals in Columbia’s history. While Sundays are free, entry is less than $1, but be warned the museum is closed Monday. Give yourself at least two hours.
Not far from the Gold Museum, you’ll find lunch an absolute treat at the Capital Cocina y Café. The gastropub serves incredible salads, seafood and even burgers with a distinctly Columbian feel in this open-plan restaurant with fantastic service that keeps you in the neighborhood of your next stop, the National Museum.
The Museo National is an absolute must after lunch. The museum essentially presents you with the history of Columbia through a variety of permanent and rotating exhibits. Try to have an earlier lunch so you can see as much as possible prior to close at 6 p.m.
Trust me when I say you have at least $60 left for dinner and drinks afterward. For dinner, grab a cab or Uber to Andre’s Carne de Res, for a truly eclectic décor and equally eclectic menu that features an Argentine parrilla, tapas and more. They often have live music later in the night while it shifts gears to more of a bar feel and friendly place to meet new people.
