Under $100 / Caribbean

Head to the ABC island of Curaçao for an unforgettable getaway in the South Caribbean.

Start your day with breakfast at Bij Blauw, a hotel restaurant with a large terrace right on the ocean. For less than $15, enjoy just about anything on the menu, whether you prefer a croissant with marmalade and eggs, Dutch-style bread and eggs or smoked salmon.

It’s recommended you visit Curaçao’s largest national park in the morning, so grab your hiking boots and make your way to Christoffel Park. There are eight hiking trails with a range of difficulty levels, and the hike to the top of Mount Christoffel is challenging, but worth it. You can also take scenic car routes or attend animal presentations and guided tours. Bikes are available for rent.

Explore the other natural attractions of the island at Shete Boka National Park, where 10 inlets are home to three species of turtles. A rocky shore, dramatic waves and underground caves make this side of the island uniquely breathtaking.

Grab lunch at a local seafood shack, Purunchi. The hole in the wall serves a variety of fresh fish; the lion fish a crowd favorite. Prices are affordable, but you’ll have to make sure you get there early — the tiny spot consistently fills up fast.

See the birthplace of Blue Curaçao at Landhuis Chobolobo, a historic mansion and home to the small-scale Curaçao Liquer Distillery. The standard tours are only $12.50 and come with a cocktail and tasting. You can up your experience to include a cocktail workshop, two cocktails and a more extensive tasting for $40.

While the Boathouse may seem to cater to tourists, that doesn’t mean you won’t find an enjoyable experience here. The perfect view of the water and marina make it a relaxed setting to end your day with dinner and a drink. Boathouse has a somewhat expansive menu with many Dutch-inspired items and you can enjoy your entree for less than $30.
