Located northwest of Dallas, Irving is considered a suburb of the Texan city. There are plenty of cultural and historical attractions to see for less than $100 a day.
Have breakfast at popular neighborhood spot PJ’s Café. The award-winning restaurant serves up breakfast classics for small and big appetites. Entrées start at $2.25. Go for a stroll along the Mandalay Canal Walk. The charming, paved waterfront trail is a great spot for a photo op.
Grab lunch at local favorite Captain Nemo’s. The sandwich shop makes classic subs on homemade rolls. Lunch costs less than $10. Captain Nemo’s is closed on Sunday. Take a tour at the Ruth Paine House Museum. The museum is housed in the home where Lee Harvey Oswald spent the night before he assassinated President John F. Kennedy. Learn about the often-untold side of the assassination story. Tours run Tuesday–Saturday. Adult admission costs $12.
A visit isn’t complete without a true Texas barbecue experience. Have dinner at Post Oak Smokehouse. Take advantage of the outdoor seating while enjoying smoked meats with southern sides. Spend about $20. End your night at Southern Junction. The nightclub and steakhouse features live music from local bands, a large dance floor, pool tables and a mechanical bull. Check the website for the full calendar of events.
