Under $100 / Europe

Manchester is only a two-hour ride from London by train, making it a great daytrip. It’s just as much as a fun city as London and there’s plenty to do.

Start by grabbing some coffee and walking around the Town Hall. The buildings are Neo-Gothic architecture and stunning to look at. It brings you back in time when looking at those buildings. Feel free to go inside some of them and see the architecture on the inside as well. Take tons of pictures you can use to flood your Instagram later.

Enjoy free entry into the People’s History Museum. You can donate to the upkeep of the building if you so choose to. It’s a national museum of democracy and tells the story of Britain. There’s lots of history to learn about from this location. It focuses on the people of Britain that changed the history one way or another. The museum doesn’t just dwell on the past, it also highlights present and future exhibitions.

There are lots of interesting neighborhoods to walk through in Manchester and the Northern Quarter is one of them. This is the more hipster area of the city and as such as numerous shops and bars to check out. Take this time to mingle with the people of Manchester and get to learn about how they live. Maybe you’ll be lucky and happen into a bar while a Manchester United game is playing.

While in the Norther Quarter, stop by Home Sweet Home for some food. They serve all-day milkshakes and have a diverse menu. Plan to spend around $20 here.

How to Explore Neuschwanstein Castle

Most people know Neuschwanstein Castle as Walt Disney’s inspiration for both Cinderella’s and Sleeping Beauty’s castles, but it is also filled with history and stories from German royalty. In 1868, King Ludwig II began construction of the medieval-style castle to live in. Sadly, it wasn’t finished before he died, so the king never got to see the finished product. Today, the castle is privately owned, but travelers can still explore it on a guided audio tour.
