Under $100 / Australia

Wellington is a stunningly beautiful, vast city with more to see and do than one could ever possibly fit into just one day. You could spend years here and never see all the amazing sights. Unfortunately, sometimes we’re limited in time and we have to make to do with what we’ve got, so here are some ideas for one day in this magnificent city.

Begin your morning with a quick breakfast at Fidel’s Café where you’ll find traditional fare like heaping helpings of waffles and syrup alongside delicious Kiwi fare. The place gets a little packed so arrive early in case there’s a wait. Expect to spend roughly $20 for a meal here.

Afterward, make your way to the tram and head to the top of the city’s wonderful Botanic Garden. The gardens take up 65 acres of sprawling floral displays and native forest and are considered a Garden of National Significance thanks to the sheer beauty. Start from the top and make your way down to the rose garden and café. The best part? Entrance is free.

While there, you might as well have a bite at the restaurant. The food is delightful, but kind of pricey, so be prepared to drop another $20 for lunch.

Spend the afternoon at Te Papa, the most highly regarded museum in New Zealand. The museum plays host to a revolving door of culturally rich exhibits as well as numerous permanents ones displaying both Kiwi and world history. Entrance fees to each exhibit vary, some being free, so plan on spending at least $20 here as well.

Spend the rest of your evening exploring the waterfront for some stunning views while also doing a little shopping at all of the local small businesses along the way. Once you’re done, head over to Monsoon Poon near the Lambton Harbour for a delightful meal at an affordable price. It’s one of the best restaurants in the city, and incredibly popular at night, and a meal here won’t run you more than $20 per person. The Asian influences are a nice touch on traditional New Zealand foods.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?

You’re in between flights and ready to find a coffee and your next gate and settle in. But then you find the signs to your gate and look down the impossibly long corridor and wonder how you managed to have the gate at the opposite end of the airport.
