Bishop’s Palace and Gardens

Wedding

Wells is a picturesque village nestled at the foot of the Mendip Hills in Somerset, between Bath and Glastonbury. It is, in fact, listed as the smallest city in England, as it is home to a cathedral. The town was listed in the Domesday Book in 1086 and by the early 1200s, the Bishop began work on the Palace. Today, the Palace as well as 14 acres of immaculate gardens are open to the public and available for venue hire. A moat, which is home to the Bishop’s Swans, encircles medieval ruins, formal gardens and the springs that feed the town’s water supply (hence the name Wells). It’s a peaceful and elegant setting for a marriage and reception.

Drinks and canapés can be served on the croquet lawn or in the original entrance gate. Here, guests can view the grand arrival of the bride via horse-drawn carriage. Guests are also encouraged to take a stroll on the grounds while waiting for the reception to begin. The Undercroft enjoys plenty of room for 150 seated guests under vaulted ceilings. There is plenty of natural light provided by the leaded glass windows, as well. After the reception, guests are welcome to mingle and visit in the Long Gallery. The stunning gardens are still accessible from the gallery.

Bishop’s Palace and Gardens offers on-site professionals to assist with decor, menus and even arranging garden entertainment for children.

As a special incentive, Bishops Palace is offering the services of a free wedding photographer, Greg James, for the first two brides booking the venue in 2015. View Greg’s work here: http://www.gregjamesphoto.co.uk/

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
