Weddings / Honeymoons

When a newly engaged couple faces the task of planning a honeymoon, it´s difficult to narrow down a list of idyllic locales that also offer a bit of culture and variety to keep both parties interested and happy. Instead of closing your eyes and throwing a dart at a wall map to make your decision, consider the Dalmatian Coast, a stretch of land along Croatia´s border with the Adriatic Sea that is known for its picturesque islands, majestic mountains and delectable seafood.

Although the distance and airfare might put a dent in newlyweds’ sanities and budgets, the affordable and serene coastal country will make the stressful wedding seem like a distant memory.

Starting in the central town of Split is one of the best ways to explore a handful of the coast’s 79 islands. Charter a yacht or book a ticket on a catamaran for daytrip to Hvar, Brač and Vis, a few of the islands just off the coast of Split. Despite the popularity of these islands, it is incredibly easy to carve out a chunk of the island for yourselves as a couple. A bottle of cool Croatian red wine and a basket of sandwiches make for a romantic picnic by the beach on what will feel like your own private island.

Continue down the coast to the medieval town of Dubrovnik where romance rings from within the walls of the Old City. Spend an evening meandering through the cobblestone streets and enjoying street musicians over a glass of wine and a dinner of plentiful seafood. Regardless of where you stay, the Dalmatian Coast is worth the plane ride for a honeymoon of low-key luxury and a dash of culture.
