Hammock Cove, an all-inclusive resort for adults on Antigua, saw a 25 percent increase in honeymoons this year, after the COVID-19 pandemics decimated weddings and honeymoons in 2020 and 2021. This led the resort to launch a new program aimed at gifting the ultimate honeymoon and allowing friends and family to pitch in with the added opportunity of giving back to the community.
“After many weddings were postponed last summer, we saw a 25 percent increase in honeymoons for this year. When we started receiving call after call from parents of the bride and groom wanting to not just send a bottle of Champagne to the room but to actually pay for the entire honeymoon, we knew we had to do more,” said Robert A. Barrett, chairman, Elite Island Resorts, which Hammock Cove is part of. “Nobody needs to have two blenders in a household anymore. We also realize that many couples want to contribute to the destination in which they are visiting, so we’re inviting your loved ones to all pitch in and give you the honeymoon of a lifetime, and give something back at the same time.”
Honeymoon registries aren’t new, but Hammock Cove will pool all of the honeymoon donations to cover extras like catamaran trips, diving excursions and more. Friends and family of the betrothed purchase gift cards in any amount, either contributing to the overall cost or adding excursions to the couple’s honeymoon.
Wishing Well, a charity started by Hammock Cove’s sister properties, helps underprivileged children and adults in Antigua and around the Caribbean by funding various initiatives like medical treatments, home betterment projects and book drives. Antigua Donkey Sanctuary, near Hammock Cove, gives a home to donkeys which can be adopted/sponsored with food and medical care for one year. Gifters can also choose to contribute to these philanthropic efforts in the couple’s name.
