Wedding

For many, “destination wedding” brings to mind images of palm trees, white-sand beaches and all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. The sun, surf and simplicity offered by traditional destinations, many of which offer special packages for couples, can be appealing to those staring down marathon wedding planning. But destination weddings don’t have to be cookie-cutter. In fact, destination weddings are a great way for couples to make travel and adventure part of their nuptials.

Eloping in Europe

If a big wedding isn’t ideal and starting the honeymoon early sounds great, eloping in Europe might be perfect. Many countries, such as France, have long traditions of courthouse weddings. A short and simple ceremony in one of Europe’s old cities or small villages is a romantic, unfussy way to start a memorable honeymoon.

Adventure in Asia

Beaches and sun aren’t only found at South American resorts. If the price of airfare is in the budget, countries like Thailand and Vietnam offer exotic locales with favorable exchange rates. The Cook Islands and New Zealand are great options for couples with a larger budget. And once the ceremony is over, the close proximity of South Pacific islands makes it easy to spend some time exploring all the region offers.

Skip the Resort

South America has a lot more to offer than a resort. Consider skipping the all-inclusive getaway for a taste of the local culture, food and history. Get married in a simple ceremony in the capital of Argentina, Brazil or Peru, then backpack and hike your way through the gorgeous and varied landscapes of Latin America.

Keep it Close to Home

A destination wedding doesn’t have to mean undertaking a cross-global adventure. Getting hitched in a city in the next state over or having a small ceremony in a national park are both ways to get a taste of the unfamiliar while being pocketbook friendly. Staying near home is also a great way to explore all the sights in your own backyard that may otherwise go overlooked.
