With any destination wedding, there is always one hassle the bride has to deal with — the dress. How will I get it there? What if the airline loses my luggage? If I bring it separately, where can I hang it on the plane?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just carefully fold up your dress, tuck it into your carry-on and be on your merry way? Well, guess what? It’s possible!
Choose a dress in a fabric that’s travel-friendly and wrinkle-resistant — cotton, polyester, jersey and heavy-weight lace are safe bets. Avoid fussy details and large princess skirts (a crinoline is not your friend). And devote your carry-on to your dress, shoes and wedding jewelry so it’ll be safer and with you at all times.
Here are nine dresses that will play nice with your suitcase.
Cotton Wedding Dress with White Dots, $395
A cotton dress with tiny Swiss dots and a sweetheart neckline simply says “romantic.” Believe it or not, this dress can even be put in the washer.
J. Crew Collection Scalloped Lace Dress, $350
In top-to-bottom lace, this shift dress has a flirty skirt that falls above the knee and pretty long sleeves.
Rosemary Dress, $600
Perhaps a tea-length or short wedding dress just isn’t your style. A floor-length dress in floaty cotton and bohemian styling can still be packed away in your bag.
TEVOLIO™ Women’s Chiffon Illusion Sleeveless Dress, $69.99
Who knew — Target makes a dress that’s fit for a destination wedding. An illusion neckline makes this sweet little dress look super-chic.
Free People Paperwhites Maxi, $168
If your wedding has that decidedly laid-back vibe, this easy cotton dress would be perfect for you. You could imagine yourself traveling to Woodstock as you pack this dress in your suitcase.
Halston Heritage Deep V-Keyhole Jersey Gown, $495
OK, so boho isn’t your bag. This glam wonder is still packable, complete with curve-hugging jersey and an ooh-la-la neckline.
Beach Wedding Dress, $654.62
Handmade in Italy, this breezy cotton dress would look just right against a backdrop of sand and surf.
Cynthia Steffe Nell Raised Collar Lace Sheath Dress, $325
This lace dress is the epitome of femininity with scalloped details, darts and a gorgeous collar.
Sight to Bedazzle Dress, $109.99
You know what? Even if a bride is trying to be practical by getting a packable, wrinkle-resistant dress, sometimes a girl just needs a little bling. This floor-length dress offers both. The flowing polyester fabric will pack well, and the rhinestones at the waist add just enough sparkle. The best of both worlds.
