Under $100 / Asia

Start your day with a hearty breakfast. The temperatures can get high in this region, so be sure to drink water first thing in the morning. Halais Restaurant opens at 8 a.m. and offers buffet-style dining. Load your plate and enjoy great food. This area is inexpensive, with the most expensive meal being 400 rupees, or $6.

Alappuzha has tons of natural beauty. It’s possible to spend the whole day exploring the beaches and nearby towns. Visit Kuttanad, a rural area known as the Rice Bowl of India, to get away from modern India and explore the canals and farmlands. You can also interact with the natives and try local cuisine. Budget about $10 for food and transportation.

There are many spas offered in the region. Unwind and let yourself relax with a Ayurveda treatment. It’s said to help chronic and rare illnesses and also guarantee relaxation and rejuvenation. The spas are $15 and up, so splurge on a nice one and spend about $30.

For dinner, go to Cassia Restaurant. You won’t pay more than $30 for a delicious meal. The establishment is well kept and has a large parking lot to accommodate guests.

Near sunset, take a walk down the Alappuzha beach line — famous for its maritime history. The lighthouse close by has amazing views of the ocean and the surrounding area. Stop and relish in the moment of being in this wonderful place while the sun sets, and take a picture to capture the memory forever.
