Los Angeles, the City of Angels and home to Hollywood, could keep you occupied for months if you can afford it. The cost of lodging, cuisine and entertainment might burn a hole in your pocket fast. Here’s how to spend a day in Los Angeles for less than $100.
Ensure you have somewhere to rest your head at the end of the day by booking a room with AirBnB ($30). The film Pretty Woman portrays a luxurious shopping spree on Rodeo Drive. Reenact Julia Roberts’ famous scene for free and browse all the designer shops along Rodeo Drive.
Head west of Los Angeles to Santa Monica and explore the soft sand beaches and pier, where it’s free to walk around. Various attractions cost $5–10. Enjoy spectacular views of Santa Monica with a ride on the Ferris wheel. Find something appetizing around the pier for lunch ($10). Rent a bicycle for $10 and peddle along the breathtaking Pacific coast.
Journey to Runyon Canyon Park which has beautiful trails and views. Don’t be surprised if you see a few celebrities. When you’re finished reconnecting with nature, visit Hollywood Boulevard and wander around the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Keep an eye out for a scrumptious meal ($15).
You have several free options before calling it a night, including stargazing at the Griffith Observatory with many amateur astronomers, exploring the abandoned and possibly haunted L.A. Zoo, wandering around the art galleries and exhibits at downtown’s art walk, visiting the castle Charles Lummis built by hand in the late 1800s and enjoying a free concert at Amoeba.
