With St. Patrick’s Day upcoming, personal-finance website WalletHub released a report on 2022’s Best Cities for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations. The first St. Patrick’s Day didn’t take actually place in Ireland at all, but rather somewhere in the United States; some claim it was first held in Boston, others say New York. With the parades and celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day is one of America’s biggest cultural holidays. More than 31 million Americans claim to have Irish ancestry, more than six times the population of Ireland.
To determine the best cities for a celebration, WalletHub compared 200 of the largest U.S. cities across 18 key metrics ranging from Irish pubs and restaurants, as well as the lowest price for 3-star hotels.
The top five destinations for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations include:
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Chicago, Illinois
- San Francisco, California
Every year, Philadelphia hosts a giant St. Patrick’s Day parade, which normally takes place the Sunday before. The parade features local Irish dance schools, Irish bands, floats and more. The parade attracts thousands of people and gets better each year.
Chicago is famous for dying its river green during the week of the holiday. The river runs through the city and turns a bright green that attracts locals and travelers alike.
