Bratislava is home to an array of museums showcasing the rich Slovak history of the region. The capital city boasts world-class art galleries, cultural exhibits and dozens of buildings dedicated to preserving its rich history.

The City Museum of Bratislava
The City Museum of Bratislava contains artifacts dating back to the 18th century. Inside you’ll find original advertisements from early 1900s companies, extravagant pieces of art and rooms decorated to mimic their original style when the building was used as the old town hall. There’s also a tower to climb offering terrific views of the city.

The Bratislava Castle
The Bratislava Castle dates back to the Middle Ages and now houses more than 250,000 artifacts and works of art. Exhibits contain numismatics, ethnography, paintings, sculptures, historical pieces and galleries detailing the growing economy of the region. The collections are enough to take up an entire day.

Danubiana
Danubiana is one of the newest museums in the city and showcases hundreds of works of modern art. You have to catch a boat to reach it as it’s located on a tiny island, but the collection of paintings, sculptures and photography are some of the best Slovakia has to offer.

Museum of Viticulture
Who doesn’t love wine? One of the most unique and beloved museums in Bratislava is the Museum of Viticulture. Located in the Apponyi House, the museum highlights the evolution of winemaking in the region throughout the centuries. Not only can you learn all about the locally crafted wines, but you can taste quite a few of them, too.
