Mark your calendar. These October events in Virginia are can’t-miss for traveling foodies.
42nd Annual West Point Crab Carnival
First up is this West Point, Virginia, fall festival, taking place Oct. 4–5. One of the state’s most popular and longest-running fall events, you’ll join more than 10,000 other guests for music, shopping and food. Test your mettle at the hot pepper eating contest.
In Suffolk, Oct. 10–13, Suffolk Peanut Fest celebrates the region’s history and agricultural heritage. Check out the food, fair rides and marketplace dedicated to all things peanuts.
Satisfy your sweet tooth for one day only at the Oct. 13 Virginia Cupcake Festival in Virginia Beach. Come to eat, of course, but if you fancy yourself an avid home baker, try your hand at one of the baking or decorating contests, as well. If, though, you still have a lot to learn, maybe attend one of the educational workshops or live baking demonstrations.
An admittedly healthier one-day festival, Richmond’s VegFest celebrates plant-based living with educational talks, vendors and cooking demonstrations, Oct. 24. If you’ve ever considered going vegetarian or vegan, this is the place to go.
