Headed to Costa Rica in 2020? Western River Expeditions has a few tips for you.

Visit in July for Fewer Crowds, Better Weather

Mid-December to April is Costa Rica’s dry season, which means there are more crowds taking advantage of the good weather. May through early December is the wet season, with daily rainfall. However, the country also experiences what is known as “Little Summer” in July, when there’s a break in the rain and flora and fauna are at peak.

Visit in the Fall for Bigger Waves

Many travelers head to Costa Rica for surfing on the country’s Pacific Coast. If you’re an experienced surfer and you want bigger waves, visit the country during September or October. If, though, you’re a beginner looking to take some surfing lessons, try visiting in the remainder of the year. One good place to visit for surfing in Costa Rica is Manuel Antonio National Park.

Visit These Three Spots for Birding

Birding is plenty popular in Costa Rica, but these three birding options provide some of the best observation and photography opportunities. You can take a bird-watching tour at Pacaure Lodge, to the Mistico Hanging Bridges or to Manuel Antonio National Park. Whichever you choose, you’ll see up to 200 species of birds in the span of a few hours.

Visit This Spot for Wildlife Viewing

For wildlife viewing other than birds, Manuel Antonio National Park is the place to go. The park, says Brandon Lake, CMO, Western River Expeditions, “is home to 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.”
