St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis, Missouri, takes the top spot. Although it’s far from a tech hub, the destination has quickly built an ideal spot for digital nomads. The city offers super-fast internet, a variety of networking and coworking spaces, affordable housing, and a strong community to allow newcomers to feel right at home.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Coming in at second is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, thanks to its balance between digital connectivity and lifestyle appeal. The destination offers plenty of working spaces such as outdoor and indoor cafés, and green spaces, perfect for setting up shop. Pittsburgh also features shopping, dining and entertainment when you need a break from the grind.
Austin, Texas
Despite coming in third, Austin has the digital nomad thing down pat. The destination comes in the top 15 of U.S. cities with the best internet speed and coworking spaces, and has about 156 spots with free WiFi. Twenty-eight percent of the city’s work force still works remotely, making it easy for nomads to build a community of like-minded people.
St. Paul, Minnesota
St. Pau is perfect for digital nomads who appreciate time away from their computer. The destination offers plenty of parks and outdoor establishments to enjoy some fresh air.
Tampa, Florida
Rounding out the top five is Tampa, Florida. Compared to Miami, Tampa is much more affordable and is more suited for digital nomads thanks to its digital readiness. With 23 percent of Tampa’s workforce being remote, the city has more than 50 coworking spaces for digital nomads and locals alike to choose from.
StorageCafe, a storage rental site, recently conducted a study analyzing 169 U.S. cities using a custom Live-Work-Play index to find which cities are best for digital nomads.
