North America

This summer, New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen welcomed a new and intimate hidden French cocktail lounge. Bar Bas feels like stepping back into the laid-back atmosphere of 1970s French bars.

The lounge, beneath Marseille brasserie, features 10 French-inspired seasonal variations based on beloved classic drinks. The cocktail menu, crafted by Aviram Turgeman, includes:

Zou Bisou Spritz

A light spritz made with Lucano limoncello, Amante, Fever Tree grapefruit soda and prosecco

The Noble Martini

A cocktail created with Hendricks gin, Dolin dry vermouth, Reagan’s orange bitters, saline and cornichon.

Bar Bas also offers a French wine menu, zero-proof combinations and happy hour (7–10 p.m., enjoy $9 house martinis and $1.50 oysters). Expect French classic dishes, too, from steak frites, shrimp beignets, confit duck leg, escargot, tuna tartare and house-baked baguettes. Decadent desserts include pote de crème au chocolat, vanilla crème brûlée and profiteroles.

Bar Bas is open Thursday–Saturday, 4:30 p.m.–12 a.m. on Thursday and 4:30 p.m.–2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
