Add Sweden to Your 2025 Bucket List

Considering a trip to Sweden later this year? There are plenty of reasons to do so, including some can’t-miss events, new attraction openings and new hotel openings.

This summer, two big events are drawing participants and revelers on an international scale. June 5–8, Visby hosts Hanseatic Days, an event celebrating a unique piece of European history (the Hanseatic League) with cultural events, markets, performance art and more. Then, in September, Kalmar hosts the Agility World Championship, which brings together 700 competitors representing more than 50 countries.

New cultural attractions for the year include the Hilma af Klint Centre, located near Stockholm and focusing on Swedish artist Hilma af Klint.

The highest restaurant in all of Scandinavia opens in Gothenburg this spring. Situated 69 stories up in the air, the restaurant, EXO, will also include an observation deck. Sweden additionally gets its first country club this month. Hjortviken, also located near Gothenburg, will offer an array of outdoor activities, dining and accommodations.

Other new, much-anticipated accommodations options opening around the country this year include Hyatt Place Gothenburg Central and Hernö Gin Hotel (a hotel themed around, yes, gin).
