Air New Zealand Serves Coffee in Edible Cups

As one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions in the world, airlines are always seeking ways to reduce carbon footprints. One of Air New Zealand’s initiatives involves a collaboration with a local company called twiice, that conceptualized and developed edible coffee cups.

Through this partnership, Air New Zealand can serve beverages both on the ground and in the air in edible coffee cups, which they hope will make a positive environmental impact compared to the more than 8 million coffee cups they used to amass per year.

The leakproof cups are vanilla flavored and can also be used as bowls for desserts. A co-founder of twiice commented they’re hoping to continue exploring opportunities for edible products and plan to introduce new ones this year. Consumers can purchase the edible cups for their own use from twiice’s website, where a pack of six cups costs $14.50.

In addition to serving coffee in edible cups, Air New Zealand also vowed to stabilize its carbon emissions by the end of this year and to reduce net emissions by 50 percent by 2050, according to the airline’s recent sustainability report.
