For three weeks, Americans who haven’t always had the time and money to venture off to exotic locales for some of the world’s best cuisine were able to receive the globe’s best ingredients to their front doors. Thanks to a collaboration between home-sharing site Airbnb and in-home meal-prep company Blue Apron, members of the latter could order ingredient kits to make international dishes at home.
The promotion lasted April 16–May 21, during which Blue Apron delivered curated meal-prep kits conceptualized by hosts of Airbnb Experiences. Instead of having to rifle through questionable ingredients at the local Asian or Hispanic market where language barriers may make it difficult to read labels and ingredients, the building blocks of each meal were perfectly portioned and packaged as part of the meal boxes. Home chefs who order Blue Apron meals simply follow the recipe cards to create world-class dishes in the comfort of their homes.
Parisian hosts created a kit with a recipe for steak frites, while other available meals included Florentine roast pork, beef and rice bowls from Tokyo, beef empanadas from Buenos Aires, Kung Pao chicken from Shanghai and chicken Tinga tostadas from Mexico City. Although this special promotion ended in May, its success may inspire collaborations in the future.
