Wihtin the next few years, visitors to New York will be able to rent an Airbnb space in the city’s famous Rockefeller Plaza, a microculture of entertainment, shopping, restaurants and New York City iconography.
Through a partnership with RXR Realty, Airbnb purchased a slot of 10 floors at 75 Rockefeller Plaza that they will convert into 200 apartment-style suites. The homesharing company plans to combine its usual elements of a comfortable home environment with local influences to give visitors a taste of what it’s like to live in New York City.
At 32 stories high, the Airbnb properties will be located near the top of the tower, within walking distance of the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. During the winter season, guests will have direct access to the famous Christmas tree in the center of the plaza as well as the ice-skating rink.
RXR will manage the apartments, but Airbnb will handle the booking operations through its platform.
With construction underway, both companies hope they will be able to open for operation by mid-2020, with prices per night to be determined.
